Precautions for Servo Motor Installation and Use

1. Protect the servo motor oil and water.


(1) Servo motors can be used in places attacked by water or oil droplets, but not completely waterproof or oil-proof. Therefore, servo motors should not be placed or used in water or oil immersed environments.


(2) If the servo motor is connected with the reduction gear, oil should be added to seal when the servo motor is used to prevent the oil of the reduction gear from entering the servo motor.


(3) When using in an environment where the shaft penetration part is splashed with oil droplets, please select a servo motor with an oil seal. Use a standard servo motor if it doesn't splash with oil droplets.


(4) The cable of the servo motor should not be immersed in oil or water. If you want to use it, use oil resistant cable. Please bring your own oil-resistant cable.




2. Servo motor cable → reduce stress.


(1) Make sure that the cables are not subjected to torque or vertical loads due to external bending forces or their own weight, especially at cable exits or connections.


(2) When the servo motor moves, the cable (that is, the cable configured with the motor) should be firmly fixed at the static point (relative to the motor), and the additional cable installed in the cable bracket should be extended to minimize the bending stress.


(3) The elbow radius of the cable should be as large as possible.


Note: When connecting cables, the bending radius should not be too small, nor should excessive tension be applied to the cables. In particular, the diameter of the core wire of the signal wire is usually 0.2mm, 0.3mm, which is very thin, and it is not advisable to stretch it too tightly when wiring.




3. The servo motor allows the shaft end load.


(1) Ensure that the radial and axial loads on the servo motor shaft are controlled within the specified values for each model.


(2) Be careful when installing rigid couplings, especially excessive bending loads may cause damage or wear to the shaft ends and bearings.


(3) It is best to use a flexible coupling to make the radial load lower than the allowable value, which is specially designed for high mechanical strength servo motors. It is recommended to use a double leaf spring coupling, which allows a certain eccentric angle.




4. Pay attention to the installation of the servo motor.


(1) When installing/removing couplings (couplings, pulleys, sprockets, etc.) to the shaft end of the servo motor, do not hit the shaft end directly with a hammer. (The hammer hits the shaft end directly, and the encoder at the other end of the servo motor shaft is easily damaged). When disassembling the coupling parts of the servo motor, it is best to pull out the coupling parts that are difficult to disassemble.


Note: ①When installing/removing the coupling parts, you must pay attention to protect the servo motor encoder (the encoder is a high-precision product and is easily damaged after external vibration and knocking)


          ②When it is difficult to install the motor shaft and the coupling parts, please grind the surface of the motor shaft or the inner diameter surface of the coupling parts according to the actual situation on site, add lubricant (butter, oil) to reassemble.


(2) When installing the shaft key, use the shaft key provided with the product or the shaft key with the dimensions specified in the instruction manual. When installing and removing the shaft key, do not use a tool for strong knocking.


(3) Try to align the shaft end to the best state (bad may cause vibration or bearing damage).




Summary: The correct installation and use of servo motors can not only improve the service life of servo motors, but also save installation time, quickly complete equipment debugging, and improve work efficiency.
