The principle of stepper driver:

From the rotation principle of the stepper motor, it can be concluded that in order to make the stepper motor run normally, each phase winding of the stepper motor must be controlled according to the law. The external signals received by the stepper driver are the direction signal (DIR) and the pulse signal (CP). When the stepping motor stops, usually one phase is powered, and the rotor of the motor is locked, so when the rotor needs to be released, the offline signal (FREE) can be used.


The driver consists of a ring splitter and a power amplifier:

The function of the ring distributor is to distribute the pulse of the external CP terminal to the power amplifier, the transistor of the corresponding phase of the power amplifier is turned on, and the coil of the stepper motor is energized.

Usually CP, DIR, FREE input terminals use 5V power supply (if 24V is used, a resistor of about 2K should be connected in series)


Settings for stepper driver subdivision:

In order to improve the precision of the stepper motor control, the current stepper driver has the function of subdivision. The so-called subdivision is to reduce the step angle through the circuit in the driver.

For example, the step angle of the original stepper motor is 1.8 degrees, and the step angle is 0.36 degrees after setting it to 5 subdivisions. That is to say, the original one step can be completed, but after setting it to 5 subdivisions, it takes 5 steps. The accuracy is correspondingly improved by a factor of 5! ! !

In general, the number of subdivisions cannot be set too large, because when the control pulse frequency remains unchanged, the larger the subdivision, the slower the speed of the motor and the reduction of the output torque of the motor.

The pulse frequency of driving the stepper motor should not be too high, generally not more than 2KHZ, otherwise the output torque of the motor will decrease rapidly
